Mini Mite Hockey

General Info

The Mini-Mite program is designed for families who want to give organized hockey a try. Therefore, it is a pretty low-key and low-cost. We focus on fun while learning how to skate and play hockey. Players are ages 4 to 6.

The schedule, such as it is, is meant to be low impact and flexible.

I hope you can join us - if you want to come try things out for a while, feel free to do so.

Practices

Practices are on weekends and are usually either Saturday or Sunday for an hour, typically mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Many times the Mini-Mites will practice at the same time as the Mites. Especially when practicing indoors. When outdoor ice is available, there will be more options to play during the week.

Games

When possible, we try to have other Mini-Mite teams skate with us a 3-6 times for joint practices & 1/2 ice “scrimmages."

In January, the Mini-Mites and Mites host a Jamboree at the Langford Park Rec center. This is part of the Winter Classic. The Mini-Mites do not have any out of town tournaments.

Costs
Langford Park mini-mite program is the most affordable option in town. We try to keep costs low so families that are knew to hockey can give it a try. Also, by using outdoor ice we are able to keep the price down. Langford Park is one of 11 initial pilot Associations in the whole state who were selected to be part of the MN Wild Foundation "Skate It Forward" program. For all players under age 8 playing and playing their first year of hockey - the Skate It Forward program will pay their fee.

Getting Oriented to Hockey

All players on the ice are expected to have all the necessary hockey equipment pictured here. This can be done inexpensively. First, check with Langford Park Rec center. They have a lot of donated equipment available for use. If you would like to purchase equipment, start with used. Go to Play it again Sports.

Starting August 1 2024, players competing in youth, girls, high school or junior hockey within USA Hockey are required to wear neck laceration protectors (NLPs) for all games and practices.

Mouth guards and jock/Jill straps are are optional for Mini-mites.
